Otherworldly Walk Dufftown: Stories of Fate and Folklore

Event Location:

Dufftown Clock Tower, Dufftown, Scotland

Event Description

Dufftown is not just a village. It is a place of stories.

Stone and river.
Memory and retelling.
Lives lived, and lives remembered.
All the Magic and Mayhem in between.

This 2 or 3-hour storytelling walk invites you into the deeper layers of Dufftown and its surrounding landscape, where folklore, history, and human experience meet.

We begin at the heart of the village, where stories of fate and consequence still echo. From there, we move outward, not just through place, but through the folklore, lives and events that have lingered here, and those carried into it from the wider region.

As we walk, the past unfolds in fragments. Tales of loyalty and loss. Of choices made, and those taken away. Of love that endured, and love that did not. Some are rooted in this place, others are drawn from the surrounding Highlands, each connected in different ways to the land beneath our feet.

The river offers its own thread, where older stories rise to the surface, and the landscape begins to speak in a different language. Further on, we touch on older presences, forces that shape the land and the seasons, and the quiet sense that not all stories belong neatly to one time or place.

If you choose the longer walk, the landscape opens further still, and the stories widen with it. Old tales carried across Aberdeenshire, and glimpses of what lies just beyond the everyday.

This is not an everyday tour.
It is a story-led walk through layered ground.
A chance to notice how lives, legends, and landscape intertwine.

If you are drawn to folklore, human stories, and experiencing a place beyond what is immediately visible, you are warmly invited to step into the story.
